Update for students on vacation

Happy Birthday CT! Hope you celebrated in Vietnam with something special! Your name was on our birthday announcements!

In math: We are finished with multiplication and as the class understood all aspects well and faster than expected, we have moved on to Probability to take a break from all the number sense. In you text, you can now check out pages 357 to 378. We will be completing this short unit next week.
Probability is very fun!

Language: we are continuing to focus on non-fiction report writing and are studying characteristics of non fiction books (index, glossary, diagrams, maps, cutaways, charts). we are beginning to examine proper note taking as we begin to write full reports. Student are researching Titanic to compose a report to focus on their area of interest.

Media Literacy: In class, we are creating White Star Line advertisements to encourage the purchase of tickets for the Titanic (pre-sinking of course!). Students are also creating their own product next week and filming a TV commercial.

Music: We are performing a variety of beats and rhythms as well as learning african ghanian drumming.

Bulletin for CT and PP in Vietnam on vacation:

Hello CT and PP! Hope you are having fun across the world! This week in math we covered multiplying 2 and 3 digit numbers by one digit.
ex: 23 x 4 = or 452 x 6 =

We then went on to learn 2 digit by 2 digit multiplying, as everyone understood the process so well!!
ex: 23 x 42 = and 56 x 22 =

We did most of our work from the Smartboard and through practice sheets, but in the textbook you brought with you on vacation you can review especially pages 149, 157, 159 and 165.

We also worked on word problems involving multiplying. Page 239 and 247 in our text has examples you can try.

In language we did a dive simulation to the wreck of the Titanic and we are reading an article in our textbooks about how Robert Ballard found the shipwreck in 1985. You can check the History links here on this webpage for Titanic info and information on Dr. Robert Ballard. We also wrote reports on Friday about the Titanic.

Make sure to take lots of photos on your vacation so you can show the class when you return. If you keep a diary as suggested, it will help you do a presentation. You could even create a powerpoint show!

Talk soon! Check next week for more updates!
