Short Film by a student

As promised in our final Google Meet, Miss.Sturgeon wanted to know the student's feelings towards online learning. Here is the short film, made by a Grade 9 student in Toronto, about her feelings about online learning. Miss.Sturgeon loved the film, it was also very well created, with good camera angles and music. This girl made it all herself!

Check it out! Do you agree with her?

Relax and have a good summer. Or enjoy a great burger without worrying about homework, like Miss.Sturgeon's cat:

End of the Year Grade 5 Challenge!

Miss.Sturgeon participated in the ALS Burpee Challenge yesterday and this morning. She was out at 3:00am this morning near Parliament Hill, in support of making available a new medicine in Canada for this disease. She is encouraging your support as your final task before school is out! She would be tickled pink if you participated, even if it is on social media only and not financial.

What to do:
Do burpees for 1 minute.
Film yourself and friends doing them. Speed up the video if you can and post to a social media site like Facebook or Twitter if you are allowed to (Parent permission is mandatory!)
Challenge 3 other friends to do the same.
Use these hashtags to show the support:
 #ALSburpeechallenge
#WalktoEndALS
#ALS
#DeaneGorsline

THANK YOU SO MUCH! In this case, sharing really is caring.

Yikes! Last Week!

Hello Sturgeonites! It is the last week of school. Hopefully you were able to collect the items off your desk this past week. For this final week, there will be a short math task and a last chance to finish your autobiography and edit it as your final writing task.

There will be a short goodbye Google Meet this Thursday afternoon. Watch for the time/invite in your email. This is your chance to say good bye via video for the summer to peers in your class, Mrs. Varanda, Miss. Sturgeon and Mr. Pickles.

School Items: Pick Up

Hello all! Time slots were sent out to come in and pick up your things from the classroom. There are lots of shoes put out in the coatroom, in addition to all your child's items stacked on their desk. Hopefully most families can make it in to collect everything. It looks like this right now:

Reminder: How to Send Student Work

If you are wondering the easiest ways to submit work, here is the answer!

Math is really tricky to try to type up, so just use scrap paper, or any paper you have at home to do your math. Then just take a close up photo of your paper with any device you have and email it to Miss.Sturgeon. OR You can also create a GOOGLE SLIDESHOW of all your work, like a virtual portfolio, and keep putting the photos on pages there. Each slide can have a different page of your work. That way, all your photos are in a book/slideshow and all your home distance learning is in one place. Like this:

Language writing can be typed in a GOOGLE DOC and shared with Miss. Sturgeon.

Video projects for Media Literacy can be uploaded to your G Drive and Shared with Miss.Sturgeon or just attached in an email if the size is not over the limit.

FUN IDEA: Use a patio door if you have one, to write with dry erase markers. Put paper behind with tape if its a nice day outside.

Google Meet- Persuasive Theme

Our Class Google Meet will be 1:30pm Thursday (if it doesn't conflict with other teachers, Miss.Sturgeon is checking!). It will be for students to show the Persuasive Writing Slides they have been working on (turning last week's Persuasive Essay into a Slide show to screen share).

This is your chance to persuade us about your opinion! Are you saying DOGS are better than CATS as pets? That we should have school uniforms? That boys and girls should be in separate classes? That animal testing for cosmetics should be banned? That there should never be homework? That classroom learning is better than online learning?

What's YOUR opinion? What's your passion? What makes you ANGRY and it should be stopped? We want to know!

Getting your books/personal items from school

Collecting My Items:
The school sent out a memo about collecting your child's items from the school.

You will be assigned a 15 minute time slot to be at the school and collect your child's things. You can also return library books at this time. Please see details below.

Google Meet

Miss. Sturgeon has been assigned Wednesday (all day) as one of the days to go into the school classroom and bundle up student belongings for pick up. There will be no Google Meet Wednesday, but watch for another time!

New Work

New work will be added today by 4:00pm. Miss.Sturgeon is juggling report card writing with composing new work and its a lot of computer sitting/posture that aggravates her back problem. Things take longer with frequent physio stretch breaks! :(

Information about another Google Meet will be coming soon.
