Some of this week's homework is a little different. Here are the steps for the first part:

PART 1
1. Try to go Trick-Or- Treating if you can. OR use the leftover candy that you were handing out.
2. Create a tally of the types of candy you got. Record in your homework book or on looseleaf. We will be using our tallies for graphing in class on Friday. We will be searching for trends when comparing whole class data.
ex: Mars Bar- IIII
      Smarties- II
3. Next, make a simple bar graph of your results. Style it after the sample below.
Image result for simple bar graph halloween candy
PART 2: Math Homework. Answer the word problems below. For each, use the KNOWS strategy we have been practicing in class to record more thinking. You can draw the 4 boxes for KNOWS on paper, or print the guide below a few times. You might have more space in the KNOWS boxes if you just copy it yourself on paper!

Question 1 Part A: Olivia wants to buy a bike that costs $140. She has already saved $84. How much does she have to still earn? Show all your thinking work in KNOWS.

Question 1 Part B: Olivia has a small job. She earns $7 each hour delivering the Kanata Kourier paper. She saves all of it for the bike. How many more hours does Olivia need to work in order to have enough money to buy the bike? You can use pattern charts, skip counting, tallies... there many strategies to solve it! Show all your work in KNOWS.

Question 2: Cassidy wants to buy a new gymnastics costume to compete in her gymnastics floor competition. She set up a lemonade and cookie stand to raise the money (she has done this before to help Cancer Research). Cassidy sold lemonade for $1 per cup and cookies for $3 each.  She sold 30 cups of lemonade and 13 cookies. How much money did she make? Can she afford a costume that is $79.00? Or does she still need more money? Use KNOWS to show all thinking. Copy on a page or print the template below.
