Field Trip

Many students have not returned the field trip permission slips. Please have them ready Monday morning. I will accept them on Tuesday morning, but only if all fields are properly filled in. Skipped sections will not be accepted, as it will be too late to get the proper information the morning we board the bus. Those students will remain at the school for the day, with work to do in another classroom.

We look forward to seeing the Dunes and the amazing ecosystem that lies within them! Pack for the weather and don't wear sandals, as tempting as it is on beach-like dunes!

Welcome to the new school year! Newsletters came home today, and several more will be coming home tomorrow. Please fill in and return the information about your child---their likes, dislikes and hobbies! Address and contract information verifications will come home on yellow sheets tomorrow.

Solar Eclipse August 21st

If you are viewing the solar eclipse, make sure that you have proper glasses or have made a pinhole camera.

Eclipse! On Monday August 21, 2017, the Moon will pass between the Earth and the Sun, treating the National Capital Region to a partial solar eclipse. This is a rare natural phenomenon and, with help from members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, you can safely witness this event through solar-scopes and Sun-viewers. Meet these passionate astronomical experts and astrophysicist Jesse Rogerson to learn more about the physics of the solar system. Construct your own pinhole camera, which you can then use to observe the Sun.

Telescopes will be set up from noon to 4 p.m., with the eclipse itself occurring from 1:17-3:48 p.m.

More cool free things to do this month:

     I hope some of you made it out to see La Machine. I trekked out every day because I LOVE puppetry, and while I posted on Friday there were almost no dense crowds, that changed come the weekend. So, sorry if you headed down on Saturday expecting lots of space! It was VERY different from the Thursday and Friday crowds. It was packed on the weekend.

Something else cool to take the kids to: Kontinuum. If you have not taken the family yet, it is free and quite amazing. Here is the info:

Well worth the trip downtown!

La Machine is incredible! Try to see the show when both creatures are walking. Sunday evening at the War Museum will complete the story. The dragon will try to battle to get back his wings, stolen by the evil spider. The blend of music, art and robotics is astounding. Not to be missed! It looks crazy crowded in all photos you see, but it is not a dense crowd. There is a lot of space to wander and spread out. The audience is calm, polite and happy. Lots of very young children.
