Our last class skating trip is this Tuesday, Feb. 7th. The students have been doing a very good job working on their skating moves and have exhibited good behaviour at the rink. Any volunteers that can make it out to our last skate, please come! It is from 2pm until 3pm.
Report cards will be coming home next week, February 10th. Please try to comment on the last page with your child. It makes a difference when students can review their own progress with their parents and comment on their next steps.
Our Grade 5 students have had fun with real pig organ dissections in science, as pig organs most closely resemble human ones. We looked at the heart, stomach, intestines and kidneys! The students found this fascinating... much more interesting than the plastic replicas and posters.
In language we are creating Greek Myths; full stories with settings, characters, plots and morals. The students will be tired of writing at the end of some days!
In math, we are moving away from Probability and Problem solving and gearing up for Geometry. Get ready for shapes and angles!
In Music, we are listening to Classical pieces, and orchestral scores as well as African drumming and singing. Students will also be using their voices to perform Multiplication Rap songs.
Homework may continue to have a extra worksheet here and there (it is always noted in the agenda if there is one) along with the regular basics of math textbook pages. This is to keep following with the classroom lessons, as the textbook is more focused on basics students should master.
The Groundhog predicted an early Spring...let's look forward to sunny spring days ahead!
