We begin our homework this week! A textbook will come home assigned to your child, along with a notebook of lined sheets to write the answers in. Please keep it neat: put the title from the textbook page at the top of the notebook page, and include the page number in the corner of the page. Answers should be numbered or lettered to match the textbook.
The textbook covers math fundamentals and basic skills needed for Grade 5. More difficult problem solving tasks are done in class. This means your child should be able to complete a lot of the homework without parental help. This builds confidence and independence with homework skills, which become essential as students move towards high school. If your child seems consistently to find the homework easy and excels at the math concepts, please write a note requesting the Grade 6 text. Several students last year were able to use the reach-ahead text, as their number sense skills were solid enough to try the challenge.
Please see the note regarding homework that is coming home on Monday. It will be glued to the front of each student's homework notebook.
Monday's homework, due by Friday:
Read the first few pages at the start of the text and the Place Value chapter cover page about Cora Hind.
Do pages 4, 5 and 6 (all questions)
Read page 8 and Do page 9 # 9 to 14 and # 17 to 20
